10 COVID-19 Survival Tips for Feeling Worried or Stressed

10 survival tips for the new normal

Worries and stress about our health, our finances, our kids’ education, and the COVID-19 pandemic can really wear on us. Combine that with social distancing and many people are feeling overwhelmed, angry, and anxious.

We understand what you’re going through and wanted to share some of the ways we’re combatting this in our own lives.

To help, we offer these COVID-19 Survival Tips:

Know that you’re not alone.

“I’ve hit a wall this week.” In our family chiropractic practice, we’re hearing this again and again. If you’re feeling this way, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

No one is immune to what is going on in the world right now.

Create a new normal to take back some control.

From our friend Joy Anderson at Medesthai: “There is a lot of stress and fear caused by the unpredictability of the new virus. We have many unanswered questions. How long will the crisis last? Will I become ill? There may be financial worries. All the uncertainty creates tension, stress, and fear.”

Joy continues, “To help with this, I recommend that you find structure and predictability in your days. This will give you a feeling that you still have control of some parts of your life. “

Create a daily schedule in which you plan your family meals, your work, your child’s schooling, workout time, family relaxation time, etc.”

Build in some creativity and fun in your schedule.

Make home-cooked, healthy meals with your kids. Enjoy a different family activity each evening such as game night, craft night, movie night, in the back-yard sports night, and more.

Get outside.

Yes, it’s spring in the Midwest. The weather is indeed a bit unpredictable right now. At Sleigh Family Chiropractic, we recommend getting outside as many days as possible.

Not only does the sunlight help with natural Vitamin D, but also the fresh air is very healthy for us. It may even boost your immune system!

Get out for a walk/run, play with your dog or kids, do some gardening, or shoot hoops. The fresh air, sunlight, and movement will do your body good!

Get your body moving.

Yes, our ability to get out and about is very limited right now. Unfortunately, that means most people are moving less than they normally would. This lack of movement can cause all kinds of aches and pains throughout the body.

We recommend building your recommended stretches into your daily routine. If you don’t have any, please reach out and we will email some to you!

Also, if you are working from home, try doing these four exercises every 30 to 60 minutes. Your body will thank you!

Be creative with movement.

Find creative ways to be active at home. Dr. Katie walks up and down the stairs holding hand weights to get some cardio. Moms, you could do this holding those little ones that won’t let you put them down 😉

For a great yoga class that you can do with your kids in about 15minutes, check out this Kids Bug themed yoga video from “Yogi Jess.”

One of our favorite activities in the Sleigh Family is a dance party!!! Blast some of your favorite tunes and dance like no one’s watching!

Focus on the positives.

One of our most important tips is to limit the amount of time you spend watching the news and reading social media posts. This will give your brain the space to be more positive.

Practice gratitude.

While there’s a lot of bad in the world right now, there’s a lot of good as well. Write in a gratitude journal or meditate on what you’re grateful for. It will help train your brain to focus on the positives in your life. Gratitude can also improve mood and promote more restful sleep.

Get a chiropractic adjustment or telehealth.

Always remember, we’re here for you! We are an essential business. We’re following the CDC Guidelines and seeing patients.
