Hi, I’m Dr. Nicole with Sleigh Family Chiropractic and today I’m going to talk to you about why your child should see a chiropractor.
Chiropractic Care for Kids, Start Early!
So we highly recommend having kids start off seeing a chiropractor soon after birth. And the reason for that is because the birthing process is not only difficult for mom, but it also is very difficult for the baby. So whether your baby was born vaginally, or whether it was a C section, it’s very likely that they were pulled out by the medical provider at the neck and the head. So this is going to create what we call a subluxation, which is a joint to the spine that is not moving properly, or it’s a joint that’s out of alignment. And when that happens, it puts pressure on the nervous system. And that’s when symptoms can typically arise. So when we’re talking about kids in the nervous system, when that subluxation is present, it actually switches their nervous system into what’s called the sympathetic mode. So that is the fight or flight. That’s the protective mode. So that means that they are not going to be able to eat sleep and poop which are the three things all babies need to do right off the bat. But with chiropractic care, we with the adjustments, we restore the motion into the joint that takes pressure off of the nervous system and it switches it back into the parasympathetic mode, which is the resting mode that growth mode, so that way your child can start to grow and develop properly. If those subluxations are left untreated, that’s when you may start to notice colic, reflux, constipation, digestive issues, sleeping issues, and it can continue on so definitely we recommend having your child see a chiropractor soon after birth.
