Hi, I’m Dr. Nicole with Sleigh Family Chiropractic and today I’m going to talk to you about how chiropractic can help relieve neck pain.
Chiropractic Adjustments for Subluxation
So in chiropractic, we use a term called subluxation. That is a joint of the spine that is out of alignment or a joint that is not able to function or move how it’s supposed to. So if we take the zoom off of the spine here, when the joint is out of alignment, or not in the proper position, you can see that it does start to compress or put pressure on to the nerves, which is going to create pain. So with adjustments, and with chiropractic care, we restore the motion back into the joint aligning it to where it should be. And that takes pressure off of the nerve, reducing pain and also restoring your nervous system function. So there are three style of adjustments that we typically use on the neck, the first one being more of that manual style of adjustment where you might hear that audible popping and cracking. So when we find the spot that we need to adjust, we bring your head over. And it’s just a little quick twist. And that is the adjustment.
Neck Pain Adjustments using the Drop Table
The second style of adjustment is a little more gentle than the first one, it’s going to use what we call a drop table. So the headpiece is going to pop up. And as I put pressure into the joint, the table is going to drop, allowing gravity to assist with the adjustment. Just like the last dial of adjustment is the most gentle, and it’s going to use what we call an activator. So it is a tool here that basically is going to click just like that and it sends an impulse into the joint to move in how it’s supposed to or to restore that motion that we talked about. So for this, you find the area and I’m just going to click and that’s the adjustment so a lot more gentle.
