Pregnancy Chiropractic and Breech Position: Patient Testimonial

The current rate of cesarean section in the United States is 40-50%. The World Health Organization states that this rate should not be higher than 15%. That is a huge discrepancy! Once common cause for cesarean section is improper position of the baby. This could include breech or transverse position of the baby. Many women are told that their only option to help their baby turn is a rather uncomfortable, not very successful procedure, called an external version.

Chiropractic adjustments using the Webster Technique are very effective for helping ensure ideal position of the baby. Drs. Quintin and Katie Sleigh, who are pregnancy chiropractors in Arlington Heights, help tons of pregnant women in their office. The following testimonial is from a pregnant patient in their office who found out her baby was breech at 34 weeks.

“I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Katie and chiropractic care. I sought chiropractic care during my last 2 pregnancies for pain relief and ease in walking, but encountered a new reason to value chiropractic care this time around when I discovered that my baby was breech at 34 weeks. I immediately called Dr. Katie and she put me on a care plan that helped align my pelvis and create more space for the baby to flip. Sure enough, my baby had flipped head-down by my 37-week prenatal appointment. Unfortunately, my baby stubbornly flipped back again the following week, and with Dr. Katie’s help, we flipped them back the right way AGAIN. I firmly believe that I would not have been so lucky without chiropractic care. Thanks to Sleigh Family Chiropractic, I didn’t have to get an external version from the doctor, which I was sort of dreading. I wish more women knew about alternative options when it comes to pregnancy discomforts, and especially correcting breech positioning with babies. I am so thankful for the exceptional care and warm smiles I received from Sleigh Family Chiropractic. They are truly wonderful people and gifted practitioners, and I can’t recommend them enough!” A.M.

Drs. Quintin and Katie Sleigh encourage all pregnant women to follow these guidelines throughout pregnancy to avoid breech positioning of their baby:

– Use good posture.
– Do the pelvic rock exercise daily.
– Avoid one sided activities.
– Get adjusted on a regular basis by a .pregnancy chiropractor

At the 30-31 week ultrasound, be sure to ask the doctor about the position of your baby. If the doctor says that the baby is in the breech position, that is the BEST time to call a . If you have been seeing a chiropractor regularly, it’s important for the chiropractor to know this information as he or she may need to change your treatment plan. If you haven’t been seeing a chiropractor, it’s important to start ASAP in order for chiropractic to be as successful as possible. Many women report that their OB-Gyne doctor will tell them not to worry about the baby being in the breech position at 30-31 weeks because there may still be room for the baby to flip. However, when women wait until 35-36-37 weeks to call a chiropractor, there is less of a likelihood that chiropractic care will be successful to allow the baby to flip.

Cesarean section can be a life saving procedure when necessary. However, it is a major surgical procedure with serious risks and should be avoided whenever possible.
